With lots of community input, this mural celebrates what residents love about Catonsville. This 60′ X 110′ space features two young cyclists riding from a town to a “magical” forested area. The bicycle basket contains items people enjoy and are proud of in the Catonsville Village.
Details of the mural:
- This mural was created using aerosol paint.
- Farmer’s Market – The Catonsville Farmer’s Market, held on Sunday, has been a staple in Catonsville since 2015.
- The cyclist on the left memorializes Damari Powell, a Catonsville Elementary School student who passed away in 2019 after battling a critical illness. The tag on the back of the bike displays her name.
- The cyclist on the right has a basket full of Catonsville treasures that residents felt represent our town, including:
- A Benjamin Banneker clock to recognize the late 18th-century Oella resident, an astronomist and mathematician.
- A sparkler and lawn chair represent Catonsville’s Independence Day traditions that began in 1947.
- A guitar to represent Catonsville’s state designation of Music City, Maryland.
- A railroad crossbuck sign represents Catonsville Rails To Trails’ efforts to convert the abandoned Short Line Railroad to a bike/hike trail.
